9 people attended last Sunday’s match, 5 Bulgarian and 4 British anglers. The luck of the draw determined that all the Brits were on the wall and all the Bulgarians fished the house bank! Interesting.
Rado has organised a trophy for the winner of each match to be held here from now on. It’s a great idea I think.
The cost of each trophy will be taken from the pools money.
My tactics for the wall are pretty well known by now, go for the big fish, which is what I did.
Within the 1st hour I’d hooked and lost 3 Tollostolob. This was to be the pattern for the rest of the match.
At the end of the 1st hour and a half, I hooked and landed what turned out to be a 5 Kg Tollostolob.
I found there to be little activity from the Taranka in the first half of the match and at the halfway point, I had only 1 Tollostolob to show for my efforts.
Simon, on peg 11 had also landed a Tollostolob but had also caught quite a number of small fish too, so I thought i was behind at this point.
Allan on peg 10 was also struggling, like me, to catch Taranka. For some reason, they weren’t there.
Gary on peg 8 had been catching Taranka and from his frequent updates, everyone knew he was catching regularly.
Taranka did make an appearance in the 2nd half of the match and I had 2 Kg of small fish during the period. I also landed another Tollostolob of similar size to the 1st fish.
I hooked and lost a total of 16 Tollostolob during the 5 hour match. Most of them were foul hooked I believe but I believe at least 2 or 3 of them were hooked in the mouth. I hooked and played these 2 or 3 fish for a long time (10 to 15 minutes each?) before losing them to an unstoppable final surge.
The two I landed were both hooked in the mouth.
Results:
- Paul Mansley – 12.10 Kg
- Rado – 8.78 Kg
- Vlado – 7.96 Kg
Due to popular demand, we will be holding the next match on Sunday 3rd July and for those of you who just can’t get enough, another on on Sunday 10th July.
See you there.
