YAZOVIR MANASTIR
MATCH RESULTS
22 MAY 2010
This was the 1st match of what I hope will be many in the future.
A few words of thanks in no particular order of preference:
To the lake management team for allowing the match to take place at all.
To everyone who turned up to fish and made the day very enjoyable
To Sue for supplying refreshments
10 people fished this, the first match to be held here.
The weights were low, which is to be expected as little is known about how the lake fishes. Despite this, from the comments and feedback we received, everyone enjoyed the day.
Results
1st - Mark Jaggers - 7lbs 3oz (3.29Kg)
2nd - John Scarrott - 4lb 1 oz (1.83Kg)
3rd - Bill Isaac - 3lb 6oz (1.57Kg)
The match itself generated interest from organisers of a local (Varna) fishing match organisation, called ‘Go Fish’ who have invited us and all who attended, to their competitions. I’m guessing that’s an open invitation to all who may be interested and not just people who attended here. See below for dates and venues.

MATCH RESULTS
29 MAY 2010
Results
1st - Simon Clark - 10lbs 3oz (4.63Kg)
2nd - Howard Thomas - 4lb 4 oz (1.91Kg)
3rd - Paul Mansley - 3lb 12oz (1.7Kg)
The 2nd Match produced the 1st double figure (Imperial) weight. A landmark for our embryonic match scene and a lot of hard work for the winner, Simon, who netted somewhere in the region of 100 fish, mainly small, to win by an impressive margin. Well done Simon.
Again, good sized fish were hooked and lost. Frustrating but someone will land one soon. The biggest fish of the day (no prize!) was landed by yours truly, a 1.25 lb Mirror Carp.
Most anglers chose to fish the ‘House’ bank. Shortest walk and in the reed beds.
Next Match here – Saturday 19 June
Bookings via the website www.slaphead.info or phone 0886 539695 if you please.
Working Party – Saturday 12 June
I’d like to hold a working party on the morning and if you’re interested, we can have a quick match afterwards or a Barbecue or maybe even both.
Swims need to be cleared of weed to enable longer range fishing.
It will also show willing to our BG hosts and get some good brownie points.
Let me know if you’re attending
Slaps.

hi paul

have a good weekend

Yay! We’re back on line!!
Apologies folks, we’ve had no internet for the past week. Someone nicked the Mayor’s power cables and we’ve had to wait for it to be repaired. it’s a long story.
Anyway, another match tomorrow starting at 11am, as per usual, draw at 10am.
I’ll post last week’s results and what have you as soon as I’ve caught up on the backlog.
Paul.
OK, now the football is over and done with, maybe we can get back to something far more important, FISHING!
There was no match per se last weekend. We just fished for about 5 hours and weighed at the end just for interest sake.
I had 12lb 13oz, Simon had 7lb 12oz and John fooked about with the weeds again. Then we all got pissed.
My catch was all on corn and consisted, mainly, of small carp. Again, biggies were hooked, then lost in the reeds. Time to tighten the knicker elastic methinks.
The owners have started their feeding regime. It’s all going in along the house bank at about 30 metres out. The amount of fish topping close in is incredible, biggies too.
Next match, Saturday 10th July. Same time as usual.
Let me know if you’re coming, beer stocks depend on it.
One thing I will ask, is this. If any of you have ideas of improvements we could make, please air them.
If there’s anyone out there who just wants to turn up and fish for the day, please do so. There’s no rule which says you must fish the match. Only one rule applies here and that rule is: You are duty bound to enjoy yourself!
See you soon,
Slaps.
Head’s up.
We will have our 1st BG match fishing presence on Saturday. A few guys from ‘Go Fish’ will be taking part.
As a matter of interest, the last match held by ‘Go Fish’, at Tsonevo Dam was won with 11Kg of bream from the dam wall.

Well, what a good day and what a result!
It was great to have 4 anglers from the Varna Region match scene attend yesterday. My eyes were certainly opened as to the quality of match anglers in Bulgaria, well, Varna anyway.
I’m sure the guys won’t mind me saying this, but, the stereotypical ‘Bulgarians are always late!’ was well and truly put to bed for me yesterday. All 4 visitors were here by 9am for a draw at 11am! Take note tardy Brits.
Now, on to the match itself.
10 anglers took part, as I’ve said, 4 Bulgarians and 6 Brits.
The weather could have been better, equally it could have been much worse. The wind blew strongly all day and we had the odd shower of rain. But most of us were sat in T Shirts all day so it wasn’t that bad really.
The draw saw a pretty equal split of people on the dam wall and people on the house bank. Out of the 4 Bulgarians present, 2 drew the wall (where they would have all preferred to be) and 2 drew the house bank.
I can only comment on my part in the match and Hristo’s part in the next peg. Mind you, I may include Ken in this as well.
I’d decided to fish at about 10 or 11 metres, on the outer edge of the reeds where I had about 0.75m (2ft 6 ins) of water.
I cupped in a bucket load of stewed wheat and sweetcorn and then sat there for the next 2 hours watching Hristo bag up on groundbait and maggot at 12 metres. In that time I had 5 small fish, he had about 50!
Meanwhile, Ken, on the other side of me started on meat and lost a couple of good fish in the reeds almost immediately. He managed to sort stuff out and get a few in. I was getting stuffed both sides.
I’d been trying all sorts of things but nothing seemed to work so I thought stuff it! Start feeding like hell via the catapult. So I did! I piled in stewed wheat and sweetcorn.
The next 3 hours were very productive. Small carp, grass carp and crucians began coming in quite frequently. I had the odd decent fish, the biggest being a carp of about 1.5 lb. Unfortunately I lost quite a number of decent fish too. The most annoying being a grass carp of about 2lb shedding the hook at the landing net. Oh well.
Anyway, here’s the results. You’ll see a huge improvement in weights and us Brits were well and truly stuffed!
1st Radoslav 17lb 6oz (7.95 Kilo)
2nd Assen 15lb 4.5oz (6.93 Kilo)
3rd Hristo 14lb 11.5oz (6.7 Kilo(
4th Slaps 13lb 7oz (6.13 Kilo)
5th Vladimir 13lb 6.5oz (6.12 Kilo)
I’d like to think everyone had a good day, that’s the impression I got, and I’d like to do it again.
So, the next match will be Saturday 31 July 2010.
Next weekend, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th is the Bulgarian National competition. The Varna region match will be held on Tsonevo dam at the dam wall.
I’ll be going along to have a nose and hopefully, so will you.
Slaps.
Nobody but you and Sue show up to watch the nnational round!
) came up 2nd. Everybody said that ,this was the most fair and tactical match by now. Who ever found the balance between catching on waggler and short whip, won the section.
It was quite interesting and tactical match. Me mates: Go Fish ( I wasnt participating while creating the name
Hi again Vlad.
Great result for your guys, Go Fish.
Did you manage to learn how the scales worked??
We both found it interesting on Saturday, and Sue doesn’t even fish! It was unfortunate we couldn’t make it on Sunday but we had to be in Varna and couldn’t avoid it.
What was the winning weights on Sunday? Did the end pegs produce again?
Would you be able to put a brief report on the competion on this site? It would be good to get that kind of input.
Paul.
No, I didnt
We just took the tare from everybody`s weight .
The winning weights and whole match were very similar to the ones you saw on Sat.
The winning tactic was:
Feeding two swims one close3m with leam and joker one at 25-30m distance with heavy and relatively sticky ground bait with dead maggots, chopped worms and pinkies.
After the all in you fish the slider as longer you get bites from roach and skimmers, once you start missing bites or start catching sun perch you move to the short line- 3m whip, but keep feeding the slider swim every 5-8min or so, and checking it every 30-40min. Basically thats all.
The next round will take place on very nice reservoir near Shumen on 31stJuly and 1st Aug. There is a lot of roach, descent head of perch and odd carp and bream. Should be good fun
Bugger!
As you know I have another match on the 31st and for Sunday the 1st, we have visitors at the house. We would have loved to have attended.
I think we need to synchronise our diaries!
Aside from that, when are you taking me Chub fishing?
hi paul

I’ll be editting this page in the future to hopefully have a page per month or page per match.
With a bit of luck, that’ll make things more readable.
Slaps.

Bare in mind that I am NOT the one makeing the the dates for the National Champ. on the other hand YOU are the one in charge with Manastir matches
I intend to participate this Sunday so hopefully will sort out the chub problem
The National was great lots of fish. Me mates GoFish made it 8 out of 13 which is disapointment
