Well…………….. The least said the better methinks!
15 anglers took part on this lovely looking reservoir. 2 Brits, John and me plus 13 BGs from the Varna region.
The match was split into 2 sections of 7 and 8 respectively. I drew peg 6 and John, peg 12. A handy split as it put 1 Brit in each section.
I’d decided my approach, partly based on info given to me by Vlado and my own bloody mindedness at not wishing to enter into a bit race with these experts. The usual wheat and sweetcorn being my hookbaits of choice, plus a bucket of groundbait to get things going. The groundbait being Gros Gardons and Superblack.
My reasoning for the wheat and sweetcorn being that there were bound to be better Roach and Crucians around than the miniscule things maggot would catch. Good sound logic I thought.
The match was fished under international rules which means that 5 minutes before the fishing starts, anglers can pre-bait with big balls of groundbait. During the match you’re restricted to what you can squeeze with one hand. it was a barrage at the 5 minute warning, which I happily took part in by piling in 8 hard balls and 4 soft.
Then the start hooter sounded.
Both of my Roach came steadily throughout the match and that’s all I’m going to say about it! However, I did get a certificate and a couple of beers afterwards.
Despite the excellent fishing, it was a very enjoyable day with a load of good guys.
I’ll probably go again.

Paul – let me know if you are coming to Odrintsi this year. My house is across from the road up to the lake and you and the missus will be most welcome.
Cheers
Carl
Hiya Carl. Is that belly button Carl from the champagne cruise?
